About this place
Maenam Mission Station is a Catholic mission community in Bugil-myeon, Jangseong County. The Catholic Church Directory in Korea identifies it as belonging to Sageori Parish, and the current representative address matches the package.
The Catholic roots of Maenam reach back to the late nineteenth century. The Korean Catholic Encyclopedia records that Catholic villages had formed around 1882 in several parts of Jangseong, including Maenam. The national directory also gives 1882 as the establishment year, while another Catholic mission-station source gives 1981, indicating that different sources use different starting points for the modern mission community.
Maenam is therefore best understood as a long-standing Catholic community rooted in a nineteenth-century village of believers, while avoiding an overly definite claim about one exact establishment date for the present mission station. Today it continues as a local mission community connected with Sageori Parish.
