About this place
The Gwangju District Education Center of the Secular Franciscan Order is an education and retreat facility at 10 Deokju 1-gil, Jinwon-myeon, Jangseong County, within the Archdiocese of Gwangju. The Catholic Church Directory in Korea lists it separately under retreat and prayer facilities.
The St. Francis Monastery of the Order of Friars Minor is located at the same address, and the directory records a friar of that monastery as spiritual assistant to the Gwangju district of the Secular Franciscan Order. The official history of the Korean Secular Franciscan fraternity also records a nationwide 25th-anniversary event held in 2004 at the “Gwangju district hall” in Jangseong.
The site is therefore best understood not as a territorial parish church, but as a space for education, formation, and gatherings of the Gwangju district of the Secular Franciscan Order, closely connected with the Franciscan community in Jangseong.
