Hwanhak-dong Mission Station is a Catholic mission community at 1 Hwanhak-gil, Ilro-eup, Muan County, belonging to Ilro Parish in the Archdiocese of Gwangju. The archdiocese records its formal establishment date as December 8, 1913.
A centenary account in the Catholic Times traces the local faith community back to 1880, when Peter Seo Yong-ho and his wife moved to Hwanhak-dong and began Sunday prayer services in their home. Evangelization expanded from 1899, a mission chapel was built in 1913 under Sanjeong-dong Parish, and the mission was transferred to Ilro Parish in 1954.
Hwanhak-dong is therefore more than a local place of prayer: it preserves a Catholic tradition reaching back to the late nineteenth century and continues today as a mission community of Ilro Parish.
