About this place
Hwajeong 4-dong Catholic Church is a parish church of the Archdiocese of Gwangju at 24 Yeomhwa-ro 65beon-gil, Seo-gu, Gwangju, within the Gwangju West district. The archdiocese records the parish as established on January 25, 2006, with St. Francis Choe Gyeong-hwan as its patron.
The community was initially known as “Yeomju Gyeonghwan Parish” and shared pastoral life with the Yeomju Daegun and Yeomju Jejun communities. In 2011 it became independent under the archdiocese’s parish-division policy, and a new church was completed and dedicated in 2013.
Hwajeong 4-dong Catholic Church is therefore a parish under the patronage of the Korean martyr St. Francis Choe Gyeong-hwan, distinguished by its growth from a shared-pastoral community into an independent parish.
