About this place
Hwajeong 3-dong Catholic Church is a parish church of the Archdiocese of Gwangju at 30-2 World Cup 4gang-ro 28beon-gil, Seo-gu, Gwangju, within the Gwangju West district. The archdiocese records the parish as established on August 27, 2007, with St. Ignatius Kim Je-jun as its patron.
The parish was separated from Yeomju Daegun Parish in 2007 and initially served under the name “Yeomju Jejun Parish” in a shared-pastoral arrangement at Yeomju-dong Church. It left that arrangement in 2011 and was renamed Hwajeong 3-dong Parish in January 2014. The present church was dedicated in May 2015.
The parish is therefore distinguished by its development from a shared pastoral community into an independent local parish under the patronage of St. Ignatius Kim Je-jun.
