About this place
Hwajeong 1-dong Catholic Church is a parish church of the Archdiocese of Gwangju at 194 Hwaun-ro, Seo-gu, Gwangju, within the Gwangju West district. The archdiocese records the parish as established on September 3, 2015, with St. Abraham as its patron.
When the parish was created, portions of Ssangchon-dong, Nongseong-dong, and Gwangcheon-dong parishes were separated to form the new community. Its origin reflects the growth of Catholic communities in western Gwangju and the creation of a new parish from neighboring pastoral territories.
Hwajeong 1-dong Catholic Church is therefore a comparatively young local parish under the patronage of St. Abraham, formed in 2015 from several surrounding parish communities.
