About this place
The Gwangju community of the Sisters of the Blessed Korean Martyrs is a women’s religious community at 121 Bamsil-ro, Sansu-dong, Dong-gu, Gwangju. The Catholic Church Directory in Korea lists it as the Gwangju community of the congregation’s Daejeon Province.
The congregation was founded in Gaeseong on April 21, 1946 by Fr. Andrew Bang Yu-ryong and developed a spirituality rooted in the witness of the Korean martyrs and a commitment to evangelization and apostolic service. This date belongs to the history of the congregation as a whole, not to the foundation date of the Gwangju community.
The site is therefore best understood not as a territorial parish church, but as the local Gwangju religious community of the Sisters of the Blessed Korean Martyrs within their Daejeon Province.
