About this place
The Gwangju District Superior Branch of the Congregation of the Sacred Word is a branch community of a women’s religious congregation registered at the address of Yulchon Jungsan Mission Station in Yulchon-myeon, Yeosu, South Jeolla Province. The Catholic Church Directory in Korea lists it under the Archdiocese of Gwangju as the ‘Congregation of the Sacred Word (Gwangju District Superior Branch),’ confirming that this target refers not to an independent parish church but to a regional branch of the congregation.
The Congregation of the Sacred Word is a Korean religious congregation founded in 1964 by Sr. Hildegard Jang Hwa-ja. Its official introduction describes it as a diocesan women’s congregation in the tradition of the Franciscan Third Order, combining contemplation and apostolic activity for the proclamation of the Gospel. This place is therefore best understood as a branch community of the congregation located at the same address as Yulchon Jungsan Mission Station.
