About this place

Duam-dong Catholic Church is a parish church of the Archdiocese of Gwangju in Duam-dong, Buk-gu, Gwangju, within the Gwangju North 2 district. The archdiocese records June 24, 1984 as the parish establishment date and names St. Andrew Kim Tae-gon as its patron. Today it is the local center where Catholics in Duam-dong and the surrounding area gather for Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and parish community life.

Founded in the 1980s, Duam-dong Parish reflects the formation of an independent Catholic community during a period of residential growth in northern Gwangju. Its patronage under St. Andrew Kim Tae-gon, Korea's first Catholic priest and a martyr saint, connects the parish's identity with the tradition of martyr witness in the Korean Church.

The church is therefore best understood not as a special pilgrimage site, but as an ordinary parish serving the daily liturgical and religious life of local Catholics. The continuity of the community since 1984 and its devotion to St. Andrew Kim Tae-gon form the central background of the place.
