About this place
Dokcheon Catholic Church is a parish church of the Archdiocese of Gwangju in Haksan-myeon, Yeongam County, within the Mokpo-Muan district. The archdiocese records January 24, 2007 as the parish establishment date and identifies the Conversion of St. Paul as its patronal title. Today it is the local center where Catholics in the area gather for Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and parish community life.
Established as an independent parish in the 2000s, Dokcheon Catholic Church reflects the growth of a local Catholic community in southwestern Yeongam into its own pastoral unit. Its patronal dedication to the Conversion of St. Paul gives the parish a distinctive spiritual reference to conversion and the proclamation of the Gospel.
The church is therefore best understood not as a special shrine or religious house, but as an ordinary parish serving the daily religious life of local Catholics. The liturgical and pastoral life that has continued since 2007 forms the central meaning of the place.
