About this place
Dohwa Catholic Church is a parish church of the Archdiocese of Gwangju in Dohwa-myeon, Goheung County, within the archdiocese's south-central district. The archdiocese records January 17, 2002 as the parish establishment date and names St. Anthony as its patron. Today it is the center where local Catholics gather for Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and parish community life.
Founded in the early 2000s, Dohwa Parish reflects the development of a Catholic community in a township of Goheung County into its own pastoral unit. Its character is less that of an old pilgrimage site or heritage monument and more that of a modern parish established to sustain ordinary Catholic life in the local area.
Dohwa Catholic Church is therefore best understood through the present parish community under the patronage of St. Anthony and the pastoral life that has continued there since 2002.
