About this place
Dangsa Mission Station is an island Catholic mission community on Dangsado in Soan-myeon, Wando County, within the southwestern area of the Archdiocese of Gwangju, and belongs to Wando Parish. The archdiocese records its establishment on October 1, 1971, and identifies Dangsado as its pastoral area.
The mission station provides a local center where Catholics on a small island separated by sea from the parish center can gather for prayer and continue communal faith life. Although smaller than an independent parish, it plays an important role in connecting island Catholics with the pastoral and liturgical life of their mother parish.
The site is therefore best understood not as an independent parish church with a resident priest, but as the prayer place and Catholic community of Dangsado belonging to Wando Parish. Its continuity since the 1970s and its relationship with the mother parish are central to understanding the place.
