Damyang Catholic Church is a parish church of the Archdiocese of Gwangju in Damyang-eup, Damyang County, within the Gwangju North 1 district. Both the archdiocese and the Catholic Church Directory in Korea confirm the same address and the patronage of St. Matthias the Apostle. It remains the local center for Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and parish community life.

The exact establishment date differs between current official sources. The Archdiocese of Gwangju lists March 24, 1957, while the Catholic Church Directory in Korea lists February 24, 1955. It is therefore safer not to assert one date, but to understand that an independent parish community in Damyang was established during the mid-1950s.

Today Damyang Catholic Church is best understood not as a special pilgrimage destination but as the ordinary parish serving Catholics in Damyang-eup and the surrounding area. Its present community under the patronage of St. Matthias and its continuity since the 1950s form the central identity of the place.
