About this place
Daedeok Catholic Church is a parish church of the Archdiocese of Gwangju in Daedeok-eup, Jangheung County, within the archdiocese's south-central district. The archdiocese records January 20, 2011 as the parish establishment date and identifies St. John Mary Vianney as its patron. Today it is the local center where Catholics continue their life of faith through Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and parish community life.
As a comparatively young parish founded in the 2010s, its character is important to understand in the context of present-day pastoral life. Rather than an old pilgrimage site or historic monument, it is a parish established so that the local Catholic community could maintain ordinary religious life within its own pastoral unit.
Daedeok Catholic Church is therefore best understood through the present parish community under the patronage of St. John Mary Vianney and the pastoral life that has continued there since 2011.
