The Gwangju motherhouse of the Hospitaller Order of St. John of God is a men’s religious community at 32 Taebong-ro, Buk-gu, Gwangju. The Catholic Church Directory in Korea records it as the order’s Gwangju main community, and St. John of God Hospital is located at the same address.
The bishops’ conference directory records the hospital as established in January 1960 and identifies the Hospitaller Order of St. John of God as the responsible religious institute. The site is therefore not an ordinary territorial parish church, but a place where religious community life and a medical apostolate are closely joined.
Its defining identity is the community’s ministry of caring for the sick in the spiritual tradition of St. John of God.
