About this place
Bongseon Yuan Catholic Church is a parish church of the Archdiocese of Gwangju on Obang-ro in Nam-gu, Gwangju, within the Gwangju South district. The archdiocese records the parish as established on July 28, 2011, with St. Teresa of Jesus as its patron.
A comparatively young parish founded in the 2010s, it provides an independent pastoral center for a Catholic community that developed in the urban neighborhoods around Bongseon-dong. It remains a place where local Catholics gather for Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and parish community activities.
The church is therefore best understood not as an old historical monument but as a modern local parish of Gwangju. Its community under the patronage of St. Teresa of Jesus and the continuity of parish life since 2011 define the present meaning of the place.
