About this place
Bongseon-dong Catholic Church is a parish church of the Archdiocese of Gwangju on Bongseon-ro 51beon-gil in Nam-gu, Gwangju, within the Gwangju South district. The archdiocese records the parish as established on October 15, 1990, with St. Jerome as its patron.
Founded as a parish serving the growing residential area of southern Gwangju in the early 1990s, it has continued to provide Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and community life even as new neighboring parishes developed. Archdiocesan records showing that the later Bongseon 2-dong Parish was initially served jointly with Bongseon-dong also reflect its role in the growth of Catholic communities in the area.
Today Bongseon-dong Catholic Church is best understood not as a special pilgrimage destination but as a local parish under the patronage of St. Jerome. The continuity of its liturgical and pastoral life since 1990 forms the core identity of the place.
