About this place
Bia-dong Catholic Church is a parish church of the Archdiocese of Gwangju in Docheon-dong, Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju, within the Gwangju Gwangsan 1 district. The archdiocese records the parish as established on April 10, 1953, with St. Luke Hwang Sok-tu as its patron.
Founded in the early 1950s, Bia-dong Parish has long served Catholics in the Gwangsan area through Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and parish community life. As the district later urbanized and additional parishes were established, Bia-dong remained one of the older pastoral centers of the local Church.
Today Bia-dong Catholic Church is best understood not as a special pilgrimage destination, but as a local parish under the patronage of St. Luke Hwang Sok-tu. The continuity of parish worship and pastoral life since 1953 is central to the meaning of the place.
