About this place

Guro 3-dong Catholic Church is a parish of the Seoul Archdiocese's Guro District 16 at 82 Digital-ro 27-gil in Guro-gu. It was formed in October 1963 after separating from Dorim-dong Parish, and its patron is St. Francis de Sales.

The parish has long served Catholics in an area shaped by both industrial and residential development. The Salesians were involved in its pastoral ministry from the parish's early period, linking its history especially with education and youth ministry.

History & origins

Guro 3-dong Parish was created amid rapid growth in the Guro industrial area and an increasing Catholic population in the 1960s, separating from Dorim-dong Parish. The Catholic Church Directory records October 17, 1963, as the establishment date, while related Catholic Encyclopedia entries give October 18, a one-day discrepancy.

Around the time of its creation, the Salesians assumed pastoral responsibility for the then Guro-dong parish and expanded their work in Seoul. The parish developed as a base of ministry for workers, families, and young people in the industrial district. Although parish boundaries and names later changed as other Guro parishes were created, the community continues as today's Guro 3-dong Parish.
