About this place
Gyoam Mission Station of Ganseong Parish is a Catholic mission station of the Diocese of Chuncheon. It is located in Gyoam-ri, Toseong-myeon, Goseong County, Gangwon State, and is under the jurisdiction of Ganseong Parish. The official diocesan list of mission stations likewise identifies it as “Gyoam” and places it under Ganseong Parish.
As a mission station, it is a place where Catholics living away from the parish church can form a local faith community, making it a local point of Catholic life for the Gyoam area. Because the public diocesan material provides little detail about its present activities, no claims are made beyond its official status and parish affiliation.
History & origins
The official list of mission stations of the Diocese of Chuncheon records September 1954 as the establishment date of Gyoam Mission Station. This is direct evidence that a Catholic community organized as a mission station existed in the Gyoam area by at least the mid-1950s.
Public official sources, however, do not separately document later construction or relocation of the chapel, changes of jurisdiction, or other major events. The history of Gyoam Mission Station therefore uses only the verified establishment date as a chronological reference point and does not infer the details of its later history without evidence.
