Songshiri Mission

About this place

Songsi-ri Mission Station is a Catholic mission station of the Diocese of Daejeon in Buseok-myeon, Seosan, Chungcheongnam-do. The Directory of the Catholic Church in Korea currently lists it as a separate entry under the name “Songsi-ri Mission Station,” confirming its name, diocesan affiliation, and present location. In the rural southwestern part of Seosan, it can be understood as a local center of faith for Catholics living at some distance from a parish church.

The official sources currently available are mainly directory records, so the details of its present activities and administration should not be overstated. A mission station, however, is a place formed so that a smaller local Catholic community can gather for prayer and participate in the Church's liturgical life. Songsi-ri is therefore best understood as a modest Catholic space that has supported continuity of faith within its local community, rather than as a large parish church.
