About this place
Sinryewon Catholic Church is the parish church of Sinryewon Parish in the Hongseong District of the Diocese of Daejeon, located in Yesan-eup, Yesan County. The current Directory of the Catholic Church in Korea confirms it as an active parish whose patron is the Sacred Heart of Jesus. It serves Catholics in the northern Yesan and Sinryewon area as a center for Mass, the sacraments, formation, and community life, while remaining connected with the older Catholic traditions of the surrounding Naepo region.
Sinryewon is significant as an example of a local Catholic community that grew from a rural mission station into a formal parish. Its pastoral area still includes communities with long mission-station traditions, such as Sucheolli, illustrating the relationship between a parish church and smaller rural Catholic communities in Naepo. The exact establishment date differs between reliable sources and is therefore treated cautiously in the history section, but the present identity of Sinryewon as a parish of the Diocese of Daejeon, with the Sacred Heart of Jesus as its patron, is clearly established by the official directory.
