History & origins

Seosan Seokrim-dong Parish was established on August 17, 1987. The date confirmed by the official Catholic directory marks the beginning of an independent parish community in Seokrim-dong amid the growth of the Church and changes in the urban life of Seosan. Public official sources do not, however, provide enough detail to determine exactly from which parish it was separated or how the boundaries were adjusted, so those points are not inferred here.

The parish subsequently took its place as one of the communities of the Seosan District and continued its liturgical and catechetical life. One clearly documented development came in 2018, when ministry for older parishioners was organized more systematically. After establishing a seniors' ministry group in February, the parish completed its preparations and celebrated the opening Mass of Seokrim Bible College in October, beginning a regular program combining Scripture study and fellowship.

This chronology shows that parish history is shaped not only by changes to buildings but also by the way pastoral life expands in response to the composition and needs of the faithful. Although a complete record of construction and relocation after the founding is not available in public sources, the establishment of the parish in 1987 and the formal development of senior faith formation in 2018 are two important milestones that can be verified from official records.
