About this place
The Salesian Sisters’ community in Isa-dong, Daejeon, is the Daejeon convent of the congregation also known as the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians. The Catholic Directory of Korea lists it as a women’s religious community within the Diocese of Daejeon and gives its English name as Salesian Sisters of Don Bosco (Daughters of Mary Help of Christians: F.M.A.). This place should therefore be understood not as a parish church, but as a convent community for the common life and apostolate of religious sisters.
The congregation was founded by St. John Bosco and St. Mary Domenica Mazzarello for the Christian formation of young people, especially girls in need of care and education. Although the full range of programs of the Daejeon convent is not publicly described in official materials, the identity of the Isa-dong community can be understood within this Salesian tradition of education and apostolate for young people. Its essential character is that of a women’s religious community combining consecrated community life with educational service.
