Franciscan Missionary Sisters of the Immaculate Conception

About this place

This place is the “Geumsan Novitiate” of the Franciscan Missionary Brothers of Service. The Directory of the Catholic Church in Korea explicitly identifies the community in Buri-myeon, Geumsan-gun, as the congregation’s novitiate and confirms that the internal ministry of novice formation is assigned there. Its principal role therefore differs from that of an ordinary local community: it is a place of initial formation where men entering religious life learn the congregation’s common life and identity as religious.

The Franciscan Missionary Brothers of Service are a men’s religious community that takes the human love and spirit of service exemplified by St. Francis of Assisi as an important spiritual orientation. The congregation has continued both community life in Korea and missionary service abroad. The Geumsan Novitiate is linked to the continuity of the congregation as a whole because it is a place where this spirit is handed on to new religious and where they are formed in prayer, common life, and the attitude of evangelical service.
