About this place
Nonsan Naedong Catholic Church is a parish in the Nonsan district of the Diocese of Daejeon. The Directory of the Catholic Church in Korea lists it as an independent parish and identifies the Holy Family as its patron. The parish serves as a center of faith where local Catholics celebrate Mass, receive the sacraments, learn the faith, and sustain parish community life, forming one of the Catholic communities in central Nonsan.
Its dedication to the Holy Family gives the parish a spiritual point of reference in Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, inviting reflection on faith, love, and mutual responsibility within family life. The current directory lists no mission stations under the parish. The church therefore has a clear character as the place where Catholics of Naedong and the surrounding area gather as one parish community for liturgy and the continuing practice of their faith.
History & origins
The establishment of Nonsan Naedong Parish took place as the urban area of Nonsan grew and the need increased to readjust the pastoral territory of the existing parish. The Digital Nonsan Cultural Encyclopedia explains that the need to create a separate parish had been raised from around 2003. On January 8, 2004, the community was separated from Nonsan Buchang-dong Parish and began as a new parish; the Directory of the Catholic Church in Korea records the same date as its foundation date.
The new parish took the Holy Family—Jesus, Mary, and Joseph—as its patron. This choice gave the newly formed community a spiritual image centered on living the faith in family and daily life. After the separation, Catholics formerly within Buchang-dong Parish were able to continue liturgical and sacramental life within a newly defined independent parish community.
Its continued listing today as a separate parish in the official Catholic directory shows that the separation became a lasting part of the pastoral structure of Catholic life in Nonsan rather than a temporary arrangement. Because the verifiable sources are concentrated on the parish’s founding period and patron, later details concerning construction or expansion have not been added here.
