History & origins

Gwanjeo 2-dong Parish was established on January 12, 2011. The Catholic Church directory in Korea records this date as the founding of the parish, confirming it as the beginning of an independent parish community responsible for part of Gwanjeo 2-dong.

From its early years, the new parish developed its liturgical and educational spaces step by step. According to a record from the Diocese of Daejeon, in 2013 the parish rented an additional third floor in the building it was using and undertook renovation of an education hall, thereby enlarging the space available for parish gatherings. Rather than beginning with a fully completed large church complex, the community expanded its foundation by securing and adapting the spaces it needed.

A blessing for the expanded church space was held on May 12, 2013. The event records how, in its early years, Gwanjeo 2-dong Parish gradually organized places for worship and formation within practical constraints. The parish has since continued within the Southern Daejeon District as an independent pastoral community serving part of Gwanjeo 2-dong.
