About this place
Gwanjeo 2-dong Parish is a parish of the Southern Daejeon District in the Catholic Diocese of Daejeon and serves part of Gwanjeo 2-dong in Seo-gu, Daejeon. The Catholic Church directory in Korea records Our Lady of Lourdes as its patron. Within the Gwanjeo 2-dong neighborhood, the parish is the center of local pastoral life where Catholics attend Mass, receive the sacraments, and continue faith formation and community activities.
A parish dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes naturally evokes Marian devotion as well as prayer and care for the sick and those in difficulty. Since becoming independent, the parish has expanded its own liturgical and educational spaces and today functions as an established community where Catholics of the Gwanjeo 2-dong area gather regularly.
History & origins
Gwanjeo 2-dong Parish was established on January 12, 2011. The Catholic Church directory in Korea records this date as the founding of the parish, confirming it as the beginning of an independent parish community responsible for part of Gwanjeo 2-dong.
From its early years, the new parish developed its liturgical and educational spaces step by step. According to a record from the Diocese of Daejeon, in 2013 the parish rented an additional third floor in the building it was using and undertook renovation of an education hall, thereby enlarging the space available for parish gatherings. Rather than beginning with a fully completed large church complex, the community expanded its foundation by securing and adapting the spaces it needed.
A blessing for the expanded church space was held on May 12, 2013. The event records how, in its early years, Gwanjeo 2-dong Parish gradually organized places for worship and formation within practical constraints. The parish has since continued within the Southern Daejeon District as an independent pastoral community serving part of Gwanjeo 2-dong.
