History & origins

Godeok Parish was newly established in January 2021 when the Diocese of Daejeon created two new parishes. The diocese's official notice defined Godeok Church's territory as the Godeok-myeon area and identified Deoksan Parish in the Hongseong District as its mother parish. The Catholic community of Godeok-myeon thus began as an independent pastoral district separated from Deoksan Parish.

In the priest assignments published in the same notice, Father Noh Ho-young was appointed “Pastor of Godeok (newly established),” and January 21, 2021 was given as the arrival date for transferred priests. A Catholic Times report on the same round of appointments likewise described the Godeok pastorate as a newly created assignment, providing a cross-check that the parish and its initial pastoral structure were established together.

Because the parish was founded relatively recently, official records documenting a long sequence of church construction or relocation remain limited. The verifiable core of its early history is therefore the 2021 separation from Deoksan Parish and the establishment of an independent parish centered on Godeok-myeon.
