Cheonan Dujeong-dong Parish is a parish of the Cheonan Western District in the Catholic Diocese of Daejeon, serving the faithful around Dujeong-dong in northwestern Cheonan through Mass, the sacraments, faith formation, and community activities. The Catholic Church Directory in Korea records its establishment on 14 January 2003 and identifies the Holy Family as its patron.
The parish was formed by separation from Seongjeong-dong Parish in response to population growth in northwestern Cheonan. Its significance therefore lies not simply in the church building, but in its role as a local parish created so that Catholics in a rapidly developing urban area could participate in liturgy and pastoral life closer to home. It has become an independent pastoral community within the Cheonan Western District, sustaining the everyday faith life of local Catholics.
History & origins
In the early 2000s, continued population growth in Cheonan led the Diocese of Daejeon to judge that a separate parish was needed in the Dujeong-dong area. The Digital Encyclopedia of Cheonan records that on 18 December 2002 the diocese decided to establish new parishes in Dujeong-dong and Jiksan.
On 14 January 2003, Dujeong-dong Parish was formally established with 733 Catholics transferred from Seongjeong-dong Parish. The new community completed a prefabricated church on 6 December of the same year, giving it an independent place for liturgy and pastoral life. The Catholic Church Directory in Korea likewise records 14 January 2003 as the parish's foundation date.
The beginning of Dujeong-dong Parish was part of a broader reorganization of parish territories in response to the urban expansion of northwestern Cheonan, allowing Catholics to participate in Mass and the sacraments nearer to their own neighborhoods. The community subsequently became established as a parish of the Cheonan Western District and continues that role today.
