About this place
Cheonan Buldang 2-dong Parish belongs to the Cheonan Western District of the Catholic Diocese of Daejeon and serves Catholics in the Buldang 2-dong area through Mass, the sacraments, faith formation, and parish community life. The Catholic Church Directory in Korea records that the parish was established in January 2017 and honors the Body and Blood of Christ as its patronal title.
The parish was separated from Cheonan Buldang-dong Parish in response to the growth of the new residential district. Despite its relatively short history, it has established an independent church and parish structure and now serves as the local pastoral center for Catholics in Buldang 2-dong within the Cheonan Western District. Its present identity is best understood as a community that retains continuity with its mother parish while having grown into a distinct parish of its own.
History & origins
In January 2017, the Diocese of Daejeon created a new parish for the Buldang 2-dong area and designated Cheonan Buldang-dong Parish as its mother parish. The diocesan personnel notice formally records the need for a separate pastoral community within the Cheonan Western District, while the Catholic Church Directory in Korea likewise places the foundation in January 2017.
The new community then began the work of securing its own church. According to a later diocesan bulletin, the diocesan bishop blessed the church site on 1 March 2018, and after construction the parish celebrated an entrance Mass on 30 March 2019, thereby gaining an independent space for its liturgical life.
The original announcement and the later bulletin differ slightly in the precise foundation date and the number of initial parishioners, so the securely shared fact is that the parish began in January 2017 by separation from Buldang-dong Parish. Through the blessing of the site, construction of the church, and the entrance Mass, Buldang 2-dong Parish became established as an independent Catholic community in the new-town area.
