About this place
St. Joseph Catholic Church is a parish of the Archdiocese of Daegu in Songhyeon-dong, Dalseo-gu, Daegu. Its patron is Saint Joseph, and the parish serves local Catholics through Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and community activities. Honoring Saint Joseph as a protector and model of faith, the parish is a center of worship and community life for several generations in the southern part of Dalseo-gu.
The present church is not only the parish’s liturgical space but part of a larger Catholic complex developed together with a common residence for priests. This gives St. Joseph Parish a distinctive setting in which ordinary parish ministry is located close to a communal residence serving clergy of the archdiocese.
History & origins
St. Joseph Parish was established in the Archdiocese of Daegu on November 24, 1992. The official parish directory records both the date of establishment and Saint Joseph as the patron.
The parish later underwent a major change with the construction of a new church and a common residence for priests. On October 9, 2016, Archbishop Thaddeus Cho Hwan-gil blessed the common priests’ residence and then celebrated the dedication Mass for the new St. Joseph church. The church building was constructed from one basement level to four stories above ground.
In 2017 the parish marked its twenty-fifth anniversary with a Mass of thanksgiving and Confirmation, and Confirmation was again celebrated in 2022. The documented history therefore follows a clear line from the establishment of the parish to the dedication of the new church and the continuing sacramental life of the community.
