History & origins

Seongseo Parish was established in the Archdiocese of Daegu on August 30, 1996. The archdiocesan parish directory lists Saint Andrew Kim Tae-gon as its patron. The parish thus took shape as an independent Catholic community during the rapid development of the Seongseo area in the 1990s.

On August 22, 2021, a Mass of thanksgiving marked the twenty-fifth anniversary of the parish’s establishment, and fifty-seven parishioners received Confirmation. After the Mass, a statue of Saint Andrew Kim Tae-gon, the parish patron, was blessed, making the anniversary an occasion to recall both the parish’s history and its patronal devotion.

Seongseo has continued to host pastoral visits and parish events. Since publicly available official sources do not provide a sufficiently detailed account of the earliest building history, the securely documented historical milestones are the establishment in 1996 and the twenty-fifth-anniversary commemoration in 2021.
