History & origins

Seongsan Parish was established on June 28, 2002, with the arrival of its first pastor. Both the archdiocesan parish directory and the homily for the later church dedication identify that date as the founding of the parish. Saint Andrew Kim Tae-gon was chosen as its patron.

After its establishment, the community prepared for a new church over a number of years. The new church was dedicated on September 10, 2017, and the archdiocese explained that this date would thereafter be observed as the anniversary of the church’s dedication. The foundation of the parish and the dedication of the new church thus form two clear milestones in its history.

The current archdiocesan directory lists the Okpo mission station under Seongsan Parish. This shows that, even after developing as an independent parish, Seongsan continues to form a pastoral network together with a nearby mission community.
