History & origins

St. Michael Parish was prepared in response to population growth in the Seongseo area and the need for another parish community. According to an archdiocesan homily, a small parcel of land was purchased in 2000 as the first concrete step toward establishing the parish.

The parish was formally established on August 21, 2003. The Archdiocese of Daegu records the same date and lists Saint Michael as its patron. Its creation represented a further subdivision of pastoral territories in an area where I-gok and Seongseo parishes had already been serving a rapidly expanding population.

On September 30, 2018, a Mass of thanksgiving marked the parish’s fifteenth anniversary. The archbishop recalled the community’s work for local evangelization and parish development. The history of St. Michael Parish thus reflects the formation and consolidation of a new Catholic community amid the urban growth of western Daegu.
