Seongju Catholic Church is a parish of the Archdiocese of Daegu in Seongju-eup, Seongju County, North Gyeongsang Province. History & origins
Seongju Parish was established in the Archdiocese of Daegu on March 19, 1950. The date coincides with the feast of Saint Joseph, who is also the parish patron, and the official archdiocesan directory records both the founding date and the patron.
The parish continued as a center of Catholic life in Seongju County. In 2020 a Mass of thanksgiving and Confirmation were celebrated for the seventieth anniversary of the parish’s establishment, commemorating seven decades of a community founded in the year the Korean War began.
The current archdiocesan directory lists the Wolhang mission station as belonging to Seongju Parish. This structure shows that the parish’s history has developed not only around its church in Seongju-eup but also through pastoral links with Catholic communities in the surrounding rural area.
