History & origins

Seongbuk Parish was established in the Archdiocese of Daegu on May 23, 1986. The official archdiocesan parish directory records both the date of establishment and Saint Agnes Kim Hyo-ju as the patron, providing a clear documentary basis for the parish’s origin and spiritual identity.

Since its establishment, Seongbuk has continued as a local parish in Sangyeok-dong, Buk-gu. Publicly available archdiocesan sources do not provide a sufficiently detailed account of a pre-parish mission-station phase, the precise process of separation from a mother parish, or the construction of the first church.

The securely documented historical core is therefore the parish’s establishment in 1986 and the continuity of the community under the patronage of Saint Agnes Kim Hyo-ju. Avoiding unsupported dates or building narratives gives the most accurate account of the parish’s history.
