About this place

St. Paul Catholic Church is a parish of the Archdiocese of Daegu in Bongdeok-dong, Nam-gu, Daegu. Its patron is Saint Paul the Apostle, and the parish serves local Catholics through Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and community activities. The parish name itself recalls the Apostle to the Gentiles, and the community keeps that apostolic memory alive in its liturgy and parish life.

Today St. Paul Parish is an ordinary pastoral home in a residential area of southern Daegu, where different generations continue their Catholic life together. Its significance lies less in a single tourist feature than in the continuity of a community that has gathered for worship and the sacraments under the same patronal identity for decades.

History & origins

St. Paul Parish was established in the Archdiocese of Daegu on February 15, 1992. The archdiocesan parish directory records that date and names Saint Paul the Apostle as the patron. The parish community has since continued its life centered on the Bongdeok-dong area of Nam-gu.

On July 31, 2022, Archbishop Thaddeus Cho Hwan-gil celebrated a Mass of thanksgiving for the thirtieth anniversary of the parish’s establishment, during which sixty-three people received Confirmation. The anniversary marked the continuity of a community founded in the early 1990s across more than a generation.

Publicly available official sources do not provide a sufficiently detailed account of the parish’s earliest church-building process or the exact circumstances of its territorial separation. Its securely documented historical framework therefore rests on the 1992 establishment and the thirtieth-anniversary commemoration in 2022.
