About this place

Sangin Catholic Church is a parish of the Archdiocese of Daegu serving the sacramental, liturgical, catechetical, and community life of Catholics in the Sangin-dong area of Dalseo-gu, Daegu. Its patron is Saint Francis of Assisi, and its present name and parish status are confirmed in the official directory of the Archdiocese of Daegu.

Located within a large residential area of Dalseo-gu, Sangin Catholic Church is one of the parishes formed amid population growth and the expansion of the Catholic community in the district. For understanding the parish today, the essential points are not changeable Mass schedules or personnel but its emergence as an independent parish within the growth of the Catholic community around Wolbae and its dedication to Saint Francis of Assisi.

History & origins

The official parish directory of the Archdiocese of Daegu records April 10, 1991 as the establishment date of Sangin Catholic Church. An archdiocesan record marking the 50th anniversary of Wolbae Parish states that Wolbae, as it grew, gave rise to several new parishes including Sangin, Daegok, Wolseong, and St. Joseph. This confirms that the beginning of Sangin Parish belongs to the broader expansion of the existing Wolbae Catholic community as the population of the Dalseo area increased.

Since its establishment, Sangin Catholic Church has developed as an independent parish under the patronage of Saint Francis of Assisi. The publicly available official sources do not sufficiently document the construction of the first church or later expansions and relocations. The history is therefore best presented around the verified framework: its emergence from the growth of Wolbae Parish and its formal establishment as a parish in 1991.
