About this place
Nowon Parish (노원 성당) is a parish of the Catholic Archdiocese of Daegu in Nowon-dong 3-ga, Buk-gu, Daegu, with Saint Justin as its patron. Listed in the archdiocese’s official parish directory, it serves local Catholics through Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, faith formation, and parish community life.
As a parish community long rooted in the residential and everyday life of northern Daegu, Nowon Parish is a stable center where local Catholics continue liturgical and sacramental life across generations. Devotion to its patron saint is joined to the ordinary worship of the parish community, and as a regular territorial parish where archdiocesan celebrations such as Confirmation are held, it maintains a continuing role within the local Church.
History & origins
According to the official records of the Archdiocese of Daegu, Nowon Parish was established on February 18, 1976, with Saint Justin as its patron. Official sources reviewed for this research did not provide a reliable account of a preceding mission-station phase, the mother parish, or the construction of the first church, so those details are not inferred here.
The parish community continued its Catholic life in the Nowon-dong area, and on June 7, 2026, Archbishop Thaddeus Cho Hwan-kil presided over a Mass marking the 50th anniversary of the parish’s establishment. During the same celebration, thirty-three faithful received Confirmation. This official commemoration confirms the parish’s half-century continuity in northern Daegu since its establishment in 1976.
