History & origins

Jungbang Parish was established on November 24, 2000, according to the official records of the Archdiocese of Daegu. This marked the point at which Catholics in central Gyeongsan had a basis for continuing their life of faith within an independent parish community.

Archdiocesan records note that in 2024 a parish-day celebration was held around the feast of its patron, St. Paul Chong Hasang. After the principal Sunday Mass, the program continued with ecological education and a shared meal, together with an exhibition of environmentally friendly products. This shows how, since its establishment, the parish has built its history by connecting liturgy, education, and fellowship.

Taken together, the establishment date and this more recent parish celebration show that Jungbang, founded around the beginning of the new millennium, has become established over a generation as a community for local Catholics. Although the publicly verifiable chronology is not extensive, the practice of linking the patronal feast with communal memory and action is a meaningful marker of continuity in the parish’s history.
