Inpyeong Church

History & origins

Inpyeong Parish was created in September 2002 when 291 households were separated from Yakmok and Sinpyeong parishes. The official directory of the Archdiocese of Daegu gives September 7, 2002 as the date of establishment. Because the new parish was formed from parts of two existing communities, its origin reflects both the growth of the Catholic population and the reorganization of pastoral boundaries in the Chilgok-Gumi border area.

A permanent parish church followed several years later. On May 28, 2006, Archbishop Lee Mun-hui presided over the dedication of the new church, attended by about 800 people. The archdiocesan record describes a two-story, L-shaped building whose hanji-paper windows and interior atmosphere evoked traditional Korean homes. The two floors were arranged to accommodate the main worship space, a smaller chapel, classrooms, and other areas needed for both liturgy and formation.

On September 8, 2019, the parish celebrated its 17th parish-day Mass together with Confirmation, in which 72 people received the sacrament. The sequence—from separation into a new community, to the dedication of its own church, and then to continued sacramental life across generations—shows how Inpyeong developed from a newly formed parish into an established local Catholic community.
