Imgo Catholic Church is a parish of the Archdiocese of Daegu in Imgo-myeon, Yeongcheon, serving Catholics of the township as a center for continuing their life of faith through Mass and the sacraments. The archdiocese's official parish directory identifies Christ the King as the patron. Devotion to Christ's kingship, understood not as domination by force but as the order of truth, love, and service, gives the community a spiritual reference for viewing everyday life in the light of the Gospel.
Unlike a large urban parish, Imgo serves a rural area where Catholics are spread across a broad living sphere. History & origins
The official parish directory of the Archdiocese of Daegu records September 3, 1998 as the date on which Imgo Parish was established. From that date, the Catholic community of the Imgo area took its place within the archdiocesan pastoral structure as an independent parish, gaining an institutional base for sustained parish life in the rural eastern part of Yeongcheon.
The establishment of the parish in 1998 is the clearest historical turning point because it organized Catholics scattered across a broad rural living area as one independent pastoral community. The subsequent history of Imgo Catholic Church proceeds from that act of establishment as the continuing life of a local community centered on the liturgy and the sacraments.
