About this place
Igok Catholic Church is a parish of the Archdiocese of Daegu, serving Catholics in the Igok and Yongsan residential area of Dalseo-gu, Daegu as a place for Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and community life. The archdiocese's official parish directory identifies Saint Joseph as its patron. Honored as the guardian of the Holy Family and a model of quiet faithfulness, Saint Joseph gives the parish a spiritual point of reference for living the faith within family and everyday life.
A Catholic parish is more than a church building: it is the local community in which the faithful gather around the Word and the sacraments and continue formation, fellowship, and service across generations. In a densely residential part of the city, Igok Parish provides that center of community, helping Catholics remain connected to the Church's liturgical and sacramental life and to the mutual care of their neighbors in faith.
History & origins
According to official records of the Archdiocese of Daegu, Igok Parish was established on February 8, 1998. From that date, the Catholic community of the Igok area took its place within the archdiocesan pastoral structure as an independent parish and continued its liturgical, sacramental, and catechetical life around the church.
On February 5, 2023, marking the parish's 25th anniversary, Archbishop Thaddeus Cho Hwan-kil presided over the blessing of a Marian statue and the celebration of Confirmation. The archdiocesan record states that 83 faithful received Confirmation that day. After roughly a generation, the parish gathered to reaffirm its faith and to look ahead through Marian devotion and the sacrament of Confirmation.
In the official chronology that can be verified, the parish's establishment and its 25th-anniversary liturgy form two clear milestones in the growth of Igok Parish. The fact that the anniversary brought together the blessing of a Marian statue and Confirmation shows that the occasion was not only retrospective: it also expressed the parish's continuing effort to hand on the faith to a new generation and renew its liturgical life.
