About this place
Gyeongsan Catholic Church is a parish of the Archdiocese of Daegu and one of the centers of Catholic pastoral life in the urban area of Gyeongsan. Its patron is Mary, Queen of Heaven. Official diocesan information also lists Gyeongsan Seongmo Kindergarten as an affiliated facility, showing a connection between the parish community and Catholic education.
Because it has formed a parish community in Gyeongsan for many decades, it has a different local weight from recently established parishes. Today it continues to gather Catholics in central Gyeongsan through liturgy, catechesis, and sacramental life for different generations.
History & origins
According to the official records of the Archdiocese of Daegu, Gyeongsan Parish was established on March 25, 1952. The date falls during the Korean War and shows that an independent parish community was formally established in Gyeongsan amid the social reorganization of the wartime and postwar period.
The basic diocesan materials currently available do not make it possible to reconstruct the full mission-station phase before foundation or the complete history of the early church building. Even so, the fact that the parish was already established independently in the early 1950s helps explain the deep roots of the Catholic community that continued to develop alongside the growth of central Gyeongsan.
