About this place
Gacheon Catholic Church is a parish of the Archdiocese of Daegu serving Catholics in and around Gacheon-myeon, Seongju-gun. Its patron is Our Lady of Fatima. Official diocesan information lists not only the parish church but also the Songgye, Suryun, and Chaengi mission stations, showing clearly its role as a pastoral center linking Catholics scattered across a broad rural area.
In this setting, Gacheon Parish is best understood not simply as one building but as the center of a faith community connecting the parish church with several outlying stations. Its important role is to help Catholics in the villages of southwestern Seongju continue their participation in Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and communal Catholic life.
History & origins
Gacheon Parish was established on March 19, 1960. The official records of the Archdiocese of Daegu give this date as the parish’s foundation, after which it developed as an independent pastoral community for the Gacheon area.
The publicly available basic diocesan data are not sufficient to reconstruct the full history of any earlier mission stations or the construction and relocation of church buildings. However, the present connection of the Songgye, Suryun, and Chaengi stations with the parish shows a continuing pattern in which several rural Catholic communities have remained linked within one pastoral jurisdiction.
