Busang Catholic Church

History & origins

The Busang community was established as a quasi-parish of the Archdiocese of Daegu on September 4, 2007. Both the diocesan profile and the directory of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Korea record the same date, identifying it from the outset as a distinct pastoral community under the patronage of Saint Paul the Apostle.

The quasi-parish structure means that the local Catholic community required substantially independent pastoral care while operating within a canonical and diocesan form distinct from an ordinary parish. Public official sources do not provide enough detail about any earlier mission-station period or the stages of church construction, so it is more accurate to take the 2007 establishment as a quasi-parish as the verified historical starting point rather than to speculate about earlier developments.

Since its establishment, Busang has continued to be listed as a quasi-parish in Region 3 of the Fifth Vicariate of the Archdiocese of Daegu. The fact that “quasi-parish” remains part of its official designation shows that the particular pastoral structure established at its beginning has continued to the present.
