About this place
Banyawol Parish belongs to the Archdiocese of Daegu and forms a long-established Catholic community in the Banyawol area of eastern Daegu. Its patron is Our Lady, Queen of the Rosary, and the parish is the local center where Catholics share their faith through Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and communal life.
The parish has also taken part in care and welfare within the local community. Archdiocesan records describe a spiritual-care program for older adults that began from a request by the parish's social-welfare committee and was carried out in cooperation with a local welfare agency. This is one example of Banyawol Parish functioning not only as a place of worship and faith formation but also as a Catholic community connected with its neighborhood.
History & origins
Banyawol Parish was established on March 19, 1960. It took shape as an independent parish in the course of evangelization in eastern Daegu and has continued its communal faith under the patronage of Our Lady, Queen of the Rosary.
In 2010, a Mass marked the fiftieth anniversary of the parish. The celebration reviewed how the faith had been transmitted in the area and presented a brief history of the parish, with former pastors and parishioners gathering to look back on half a century. The anniversary highlighted that the parish's growth was the result of generations of evangelization and community-building rather than of a single building or event.
In June 2025, Banyawol Parish celebrated a Mass of thanksgiving for its sixty-fifth anniversary together with Confirmation. The official commemoration showed how the community founded in 1960 had endured as a parish of the local Church and how its history continues in the present faith community.
