About this place
Baekcheon Parish belongs to the Archdiocese of Daegu and serves the Catholic community in and around Baekcheon-dong, Gyeongsan. Its patron is Saint Peter Yu Tae-chol, a Korean martyr, and the parish is the local center where Catholics continue their faith through Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and communal life.
Although the parish was established relatively recently, its liturgical space developed gradually from the remodeling of an existing building into a church. This process reflects a parish whose identity grew not from a grand architectural beginning but from the steady adaptation of a local space to the liturgical and communal life of the Church.
History & origins
Baekcheon Parish was established on September 4, 2007. According to an official archdiocesan account, the first pastor remodeled an existing building into a church, and the new parish began its liturgical life there.
On September 7, 2008, Father Choi Si-dong blessed the church. The celebration at that time was a blessing of the church without the anointing of the altar with sacred chrism. The space then served for many years as the center of the parish's Masses, sacraments, and communal life.
On March 3, 2024, the Third Sunday of Lent, Bishop John Bosco Chang Shin-ho presided over the dedication of the altar. The sequence from the 2007 establishment and remodeling, through the 2008 church blessing, to the 2024 altar dedication shows how Baekcheon Parish's liturgical space was completed over time.
