About this place
Daechi Nativity of Mary Catholic Church is a parish of District 11 (Gangnam) of the Archdiocese of Seoul, located on Yeoksam-ro 90-gil in Daechi-dong, Gangnam-gu. The current Catholic Church Directory lists it as “Daechi Nativity of Mary,” records its establishment on September 9, 2004, and names the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary as its patronal feast.
At its foundation it was officially called “Daechi 3-dong Church” and was created to serve all of Daechi 3-dong. Its present name and patronal feast place the Nativity of Mary at the center of the parish's identity while it continues to serve the local Catholic community of Daechi 3-dong.
History & origins
On September 9, 2004, the Archdiocese of Seoul created “Daechi 3-dong Catholic Church” by separating all of Daechi 3-dong from Daechi 4-dong Parish. This date matches the establishment date in the current Catholic Church Directory.
The administrative-district name used at foundation has since been replaced in the current directory by “Daechi Nativity of Mary,” and the parish's patronal feast is the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Because the available official sources do not establish the exact date of the name change, the 2004 foundation and the current name are kept as separate verified facts rather than assigning an unsupported date to the renaming.
