About this place
Nangok-dong Catholic Church is a parish of the Seoul Archdiocese's Gwanak District 13 at 43 Nangok-ro 26-gil in Gwanak-gu. It was established on September 8, 1975, after separating from Sillim-dong Parish, and is dedicated to the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph.
The parish has grown together with the changing Nangok neighborhood and serves local Catholics through Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and community life. Its devotion to the Holy Family emphasizes faith shared across families and generations, and the parish marked its fiftieth anniversary in 2025.
History & origins
Nangok-dong Parish was established on September 8, 1975, after separating from Sillim-dong Parish as the Catholic population of the Nangok area grew. It developed into a pastoral center for southwestern Gwanak and later contributed to the growth of additional mission communities and parishes in the surrounding area.
In 2025 the parish celebrated its fiftieth anniversary with a commemorative Mass presided over by Archbishop Peter Chung Soon-taick, along with Bible transcription, outreach, evangelization, and community events. The reliable public sources reviewed do not provide a sufficiently secure early church construction and dedication chronology, so unsupported building dates have not been added.
